Webflow, Astro or Framer: which platform for a company website?

Platforms · 5 min read · Updated · Peter Tomanka

Pick Webflow if a marketing team edits the site every week and wants to build pages visually. Pick Astro with Sanity if you need several languages, top speed or a custom tool, and can wait for a developer when the structure changes. Pick Framer for a small, design-led site that has to go live fast. All three can rank well, so choose by who edits.

What are Webflow, Astro and Framer?

Two hosted builders and one framework. That difference matters more than any feature list.

Webflow is a hosted visual builder with a CMS. A designer builds the site in the Webflow Designer, your team edits text and CMS items on the page, and Webflow runs hosting and security. It powers 0.8% of all websites (W3Techs, October 2026).

Framer is a design-first hosted builder. It's the quickest route from a design to a live site, with a lighter CMS. It powers 0.2% of all websites (same source).

Astro is an open-source framework for content-driven websites. It renders pages on the server and sends less JavaScript to the browser by default (Astro Docs). In January 2026, Cloudflare acquired the team behind Astro and said it will remain open source (Cloudflare, January 2026). Astro has no editor of its own, so we pair it with Sanity, a CMS where your team edits structured content: pages, posts, team, prices.

We build on all three, and we're a Webflow Certified Partner, so weigh our Webflow opinions with that in mind. BetterBrain, TEDAI Vienna and Laser AI run on Webflow. Events Club and this website run on Astro.

What does each cost to build and run?

The platform changes our build price a little and the running cost a lot.

Our packages are priced on Astro with Sanity, because it's code, and code is where AI saves us the most time: it drafts components and runs checks, and we make every design call and review what ships. Framer adds 5% to design and build. Webflow adds 10%, because we build it by hand in its Designer.

Here is our Studio package (10 pages, fully custom, CMS collections, interactive motion) on each platform, from our calculator:

Time is the same on all three: 4 to 6 weeks, or 6 to 8 with three languages.

Over the years, the running cost is where the gap grows. A three-language site with a CMS comes to about €470 a year on Webflow (about €870 with translated URLs) and about €740 on Framer Pro, while Astro with Sanity stays at €0 to about €220.

What are the catches?

Every platform has one. Better to know it before you sign.

  • Webflow. The highest yearly bill of the three, and the CMS stops at 20,000 items on Premium. Translated URL slugs, such as Czech addresses for Czech pages, need Localize Advanced (Webflow). You live by Webflow's pricing.
  • Framer. The CMS is tight on Basic: 2 collections and 1,000 items. Site redirects are listed on Pro, not Basic (Framer). If you're replacing a site that ranks, plan for Pro so every old address can be redirected.
  • Astro with Sanity. Your team edits content, not layout. New page types and structural changes need a developer. Pick a commercial hosting plan: Vercel's Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use (Vercel). In return, the code is yours and can move to another host.

Changing your mind later is possible. In our calculator, moving a site from Webflow or Framer adds €400, and keeping the same design costs about half of a new build.

What we'd do

If your marketing team publishes every week, pick Webflow. If you need several languages, top speed or a custom tool, pick Astro with Sanity: it's also the cheapest to build and run. If it's a small site that has to go live this month, pick Framer.

Still unsure? Choose "Not sure" in the calculator, and we'll recommend one on the first call. See how we build in Webflow, or read Webflow vs WordPress if you're on WordPress today.

Questions

Which is best for SEO: Webflow, Astro or Framer?

None of them ranks you on its own. All three can output clean HTML, sitemaps, meta tags and redirects, though on Framer redirects are listed on Pro. Speed, structure and content decide. Astro gives you the most control over the HTML.

Can our marketing team edit an Astro site?

Yes, the content: text, images, posts, team and prices, in Sanity. New page types and layout changes need a developer. If your team builds new pages every week, Webflow fits better.

Is Framer good for a company website?

For a small site, yes: a few pages, a simple blog, a quick launch. Bigger collections and many languages hit its limits or its add-on prices. Pro allows 10 collections and 2,500 CMS items before add-ons.

Which platform is cheapest to run?

Astro with Sanity: €0 to about €220 a year, using Sanity's free plan and a hosting plan. Framer costs about €110 to €320 a year and Webflow about €160 to €270, plus each extra language.

Which is best for a multilingual website?

Astro with Sanity. Astro routes each language to its own URLs, and Sanity doesn't charge for languages. On Webflow, each language costs from $9 a month, and translated URLs need Localize Advanced. Framer charges $20 per language a month.

How long does a build take on each?

The same on all three in our calculator: 2 to 3 weeks for up to five pages, 4 to 6 weeks for up to ten. Each extra language adds about a week.
